The first Zombieland (2009) was a great zombie comedy with lots of action. After I saw the trailer for this new sequel, I immediately knew that they were going to repeat the success of the first movie. Our 4 friends Tallahassee [Woody Harrelson], Columbus [Jesse Eisenberg], Wichita [Emma Stone] and Little Rock [Abigail Breslin] are still kicking ass in zombieland and they meet some great new friends. Some of them greater than others. Some of them more bimbo than others, yes I'm looking at you, Madison [Zoey Deutch].
It is always a difficult balance to keep everything that made the first movie cool without repeating it too much. It struggles a little bit at times, but every time you might think it's about to go wrong there is a new hilarious scene or situation. Credit to director Ruben Fleischer for getting the balance right. Most often sequels suck and I'm glad to say that this one doesn't. It is every bit as great as the first one and fans of the original will love the new one.
It is a bit difficult for me not to see all those braindead zombies as an allegory for all the Social Justice Warriors, vegans, Greta Thunberg disciples and large collections of all kinds of offended cunts in the world today. I'm sure Tallahassee would have hated them all if he'd had to live in our world. Luckily for him, all he has to deal with is zombies. Lots of zombies. Homer zombies. Hawking zombies. T-800 zombies. And a bunch of pathetic peace and love pacifists who reminds me an awful lot of, yeah you know who...
Well done, Woody and Co. "Nut Up or Shut Up" may be so 2009s, but damn they kill zombies good.
