Year 2025 - KP's Top 1000 - Music

An attempt to pick the best new Music Albums I bought and/or listened to in 2025. I 've been listening to a ton of new and old music this year. Below are listed the best of the new releases.

--------------------------------------

MUSIC ALBUMS

1 - Miley Cyrus : "Something Beautiful"

Miley dares to experiment, to try alternative stuff, to go her own ways, and give her fans what she thinks they need and not always what they think they want. Miley still has the greatest voice in pop and is a guarantee for new quality pop-music, something that is a very rare thing these days.

2 - Lily Allen : "West End Girl"

It is a bit of a concept album, describing the events that led to Lily's separation/divorce from her husband, American actor David Harbour (known from "Stranger Things"). This is easily the funniest divorce album of 2025 and it doesn't hurt that it is easily digestible and full of catchy pop tunes.

3 - Alice Cooper : "The Revenge Of Alice Cooper"

I am generally very satisfied with the new album. It has a lot of the old and new sound that I love equally well. If the Alice Cooper band feel like they have another album hidden inside of them, then I'm all ears.

4 - The Raveonettes : "Pe'ahi II"

I had kind of given up on this "Pe'ahi" - part II album. I had listened to the pre-releases of songs on Tidal and it didn't do much. A few weeks back I decided to give it a late-year chance and magic happened after several loops. I even decided to buy the LP. "Pe'ahi II" is a nice collection of tracks that didn't make the cut back then.

MUSIC VIDEOS

1 - The Cure : "The Show of a Lost World - Troxy Live 2024"

If you are a The Cure lunatic - like me - you already know that this show was being streamed live in 2024 on YouTube. The quality kind of stank. Now we got it in perfect Blu-ray quality with 3 audio options. It still sounds a bit compressed (The Cure and mastering is not a good combination these years!), but it sounds a lot better than the YouTube thing.

2 - Miley Cyrus : "Something Beautiful", Cinema

Basically a 13 track music video that features the songs of the album in the same order. Don't expect it to have a plot or to tell a story, it is a visual fantasy fueled by music. I loved watching it in the cinema at release with other Miley freaks. It's been released on Disney+ since, to repeat at home. Grab it while you can.

3 - D-A-D : "Live From The Arena" (live 2024) - Xmas card 2025

Runner-up at the very last minute. D-A-D have decided to end their snail-mail Xmas card tradition. Instead they have mailed out a link to a video files package that holds the entire Royal Arena 2024 show. What a treat! Perfect video and sound. Just burn it onto a bluray disc and you are ready to rock! Thank you Disneyland After Dark, and a merry Xmas to you all!

LIVE MUSIC ALBUMS

1 - Alice Cooper : "Welcome To My Nightmare" (live 1975, vinyl)

Recorded live some 50 - fuckin' FIFTY! years ago and the Coop is still going strong and he's touring all the time. Insane when you think about it. I was 5 years old when this recording was made. It has really great sound for a 1975 live recording. The Coop was on fire. Today's rockstars ain't even close.

2 - D-A-D : "Live From The Arena" (live 2024)

Disneyland After Dark's gig at Royal Arena was a legendary Danish rock gig. An outstanding show with fire and effects and guests. Everyone who was there will agree. An evening that will never be forgotten. This album is not quite perfect though. Some of the guests seem misplaced. The recording can certainly be improved with a bit of editing though. You should buy the CD version, it is difficult to edit the LP version.

3 - Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds : "Live God"

I saw the gig @ Royal Arena, Copenhagen, 2024-10-05. It wasn't a great experience. The entrance fee was expensive, the sound was shitty, and Nick Cave gigs at arenas are a mismatch. Anyway, this live recording from The Wild God European Tour is much better. The setlist could easily be improved, but it is certainly worth listening to. If only it had sounded this good in Copenhagen.

COMPILATIONS AND REMIXES AND SHIT

1 - Prince and The Revolution : "Around The World In A Day" [2025 Deluxe Expanded Edition]

This 40th anniversary 3LP / 2CD version of Prince's legendary follow-up to Purple Rain may have seemed a bit dull. I mean, every hard-core Prince fan already own every single version of songs on this album, but it is actually a great release featuring the album and remixes and B-sides. You get it all in one place. You get it in great quality. And let's face it, these 3 LP's does not contain a single weak track.

2 - The Cure : "Mixes of a Lost World"

I was initially disappointed with this release. It is DJ mixes, meaning oomba-boomba crap. It is nothing like the old 1980s extended versions and remixes. After my initial disappointment I decided to dig deeper though. It is actually possible to make a great Remix album out of this mess. You just have to skip all the crap. Here is my track list for the "ultimate KP version". A single LP of this would have beaten the 3LP version into the dust:

  • ALONE (Four Tet Remix)
  •  AND NOTHING IS FOREVER (Danny Briottet & Rico Conning Remix)
  • A FRAGILE THING (Sally C Remix)
  • WARSONG (Daybreakers Remix)
  • DRONE:NODRONE (Daniel Avery Remix)
  • I CAN NEVER SAY GOODBYE (Mental Overdrive Remix)
  • ALL I EVER AM (Mura Masa Remix)
  • ENDSONG (Gregor Tresher Remix)

3 - Prince and The Revolution : "Purple Rain" (1-step vinyl)

Why the hell would you want to pay 5x as much for a vinyl version of "Purple Rain", just because it is housed in a purple cardboard box? Well, the pressing is really outstanding! Better than anything you have ever heard. This is easily the best vinyl version of this dearly beloved album. I have played it one time to convince myself. I have played it a second time to make a digital version. I will only ever play it again, if I have a really great reason.

4 - Frankie Goes To Hollywood : "Welcome To The Pleasuredome", boxset, 2025

The 2025 Super Deluxe Edition featuring 7x CD + 1x Bluray boxset + a hardcover booklet, yes that is a MASSIVE collection. It is however interesting that you can make an 8 discs Pleasuredome boxset and still leave out the Two Tribes "annihilation" and "carnage" remixes? Always these weird choices. Also you decide to leave out a CD stereo version of the Steven Wilson mix. On top of that you left out his special "Pleasuredome" 30 minutes remix, just to sell an additional blu-ray copy? Are you fucking kidding me?
