This new movie "The Electric State", being an exclusive Netflix release, had a budget of more than $300 million. That is a shitload of money. Were the money at least put to good use then? Fuck no! It just makes you think how much cocaine and how many premium quality hookers you could have bought with all that money.
The story is based on a 2018 Swedish novel "Passagen" by Simon Stålenhag. This movie doesn't exactly make me want to check it out, but I hear it is miles and miles better. I don't doubt that. It can't possibly be any worse. We are in some alternate 1990s reality. Humans and robots have been fighting a great war. The humans won the war by using some kind of Virtual Reality technology invented by Ethan Skate [Stanley Tucci]. After the war was won the humans have become "brain dead" slaves of the VR tech.
Michelle [Millie Bobby Brown] is the main character and she spends most of the movie trying to find and free her younger brother Christopher [Woody Norman], who has been abducted by Ethan Skate to be used for some secret purpose. Michelle meets Keats [Chris Pratt] on her way to find her brother. They are accompanied by two friendly robots. All the robots that survived the war have to stay inside a walled area, and of course Michelle and Keats have to end up in that area, while being hunted by a robot hunter [Giancarlo Esposito].
The movie does look quite good. The CGI is nicely done. The story is however weak, the dialogue suck, the pace is slow, the acting is plain awful. But most of all the movie is boring. I almost fell asleep halfway through. Yes it is that bad. It doesn't help that Millie is supposed to look like a teenager and she doesn't. Also she couldn't act if her life depended on it. The humor falls completely flat and Pratt plays his usual character - only a lot worse than before.
What a waste of $300 million. It almost makes you sad, if you were still able to give a fuck. Well, I ain't. I have no fucks left to give. At least "The Electric State" didn't try to ram some Woke bullshit down your throat. Thank you for that, at least.
