This one is branded as a The Conjuring spin-off, but that's a stretch. Yes, there's a priest who was also in the first Annabelle [2014] movie, but that's about it. It has another thing in common with the first Annabelle though - none of them are great movies.
Most of all, the movie is rather boring. The settings aren't interesting and the dialogue is cringeworthy at times. The kids are not very annoying though and Linda Cardellini does a fine job as their mother, but the over-all feeling is boredom. I looked at my watch several times, something that shouldn't happen with a movie as short as this one is.
It's supposed to take place in the 70ies, but very little backs that feeling. The 70ies were brown and beige and fucking ugly and everybody had hair everywhere including ridiculous haircuts. None of that happen here.
There are a few generic jump scares and the "monster" isn't that creepy. With better settings, better dialogue and a more interesting storyline it could perhaps have worked. It's not horrible, it's just disappointing. And boring.
