"The Commuter", Cinema, [2018] [Movie Review]

 The Commuter [2018]

What we really want, is a movie with Liam Neeson that is almost as great as the first "Taken" [2008]. Violent, over-the-top, satisfying from beginning to end, and with some great characters. Well, "The Commuter" isn't that movie either.

The beginning is fine. We meet our hero Michael MacCauley [Liam Neeson], who is having a shit day getting fired from his job. Luckily he is also an ex-cop, so he knows how to investigate and handle himself in a fight, skills he will find useful on the train ride back home. He is given a task by a mysterious woman, and he must finish his task - before the train reaches a specific station - to earn a lot of much needed money, and to avoid a lot of bad things happening.

The middle of the movie is a pretty good action thriller even though some of the events are rather improbable. There's too much use of shaky-cam at times, and some of the action is very over-the-top. I could however easily have forgiven that and given it a higher rating, because it is actually entertaining most of the time.

The ending however is a load of crap and that is what partly kills this movie for me. It ends up looking like a stupid Hercule Poirot movie and it just doesn't work well at all. It doesn't feel believable and it doesn't make much sense either. I guess it didn't come as a surprise though, because "Non-Stop" [2014] (from the same director) had a rather cheesy ending that didn't feel very satisfying either.
