"The Avengers", Cinema, [2012] [Movie Review]

Avengers

Parts of this movie is infernos of explosions and destruction that makes you think "Transformers"-hell and Michael Bay more than once. Furthermore there are way too many main characters for one movie and also the plot is so paper-thin and re-used that it is almost embarrassing, even for Hollywood.

Scarlett Johansson is awesome as Black Widow, she looks so HOT in her tight suit and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man is as charming and funny as ever. The rest of the cast - including many more super heroes and hang-arounds - are pretty great too.

There are a few exceptions however. I really don't like the idea of turning the Nordic Gods Thor and Loke into fucking super-heroes. I especially don't like the way they look - one looking more like a wanker than the other. And to use Loke as the super-villain is plain lame and unconvincing - combined with the whole "bring in the enemy thru a space portal" setup. Somebody should have been able to think up something a bit more interesting, eh?! It's just not good enough for a major block-buster like this.

It doesn't fail completely though. It is quite entertaining and I only looked at my watch one time during the movie's very long runtime. The pace never slows down too much and there is plenty action to enjoy and lots of witty dialogue and one-liners. It's a pretty good coke and popcorn movie, but please leave your brain outside, you won't be needing it anyway.

The first "Iron Man" was one hell of a better movie, but I guess the ball is a-rollin' and Hollywood will keep the Marvel movies comin' for the next 200 years, any new ideas or not.

I try to skip 3D whenever possible and so I did for this movie watching it in 2D. I find 3D the most pointless waste of money in newer movie-history and it is often a distraction in a good movie, more than it adds anything useful to the movie.
