Slash - "R&FN'R (limited edition)", CD, [2010] [Record Review]

Slash - R&FN'R (limited edition)

The limited edition of this Slash & friends album is worth paying extra for. It includes a great 130 pages color magazine including a giant poster and a patch. The magazine has features on all participating artists. And most importantly, the limited edition includes an extra song.

The album is based on music written by Slash especially for the guest artists. The guests have then written the lyrics for the songs. Generally the music is quite good and Slash plays some great guitar along the way. Inviting legendary musicians like Lemmy Kilmister, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper guarantees that the album will have a certain quality.

Lemmy's track "Doctor Alibi" certainly hasn't got the best lyrics Lemmy has ever written, but he still rocks more than anyone else on this record.

Alice Cooper's duet with Nicole Scherzinger "Baby Can't Drive" is one of the best songs on the album, so it is more than a bit odd that it is only an extra track on the limited release.

Dave Grohl / Duff McKagan put in a good performance with the song "Watch This" which certainly rocks quite a lot, while Ian Astbury, Chris Cornell, Andrew Stockdale, Kid Rock all deliver solid performances. "Nothing To Say" with M. Shadows is a blast!

Questions that remain unanswered: Why use Fergie when her singing is awful? Why on earth grant Myles Kennedy TWO songs when he has an awful voice and the songs suck? Why include anyone as lame as Adam Levine? I'm still unsure what the fuck Rocco DeLuca is and why?

The album is by no means perfect, but it is worth buying if you like rock'n'roll, if you like Slash or if you like one or more of his friends.
