Resident Evil : The Final Chapter (3D) [2017]

Keep in my mind that I'm a fan of the first 4 movies, so my review is gonna be somewhat biased. Only the 5th movie kinda sucked, because it was mostly 3D effects and no story, lousy dialogue, and a deaf kid - and there should never be kids in action movies.

This last installment of Alice in Zombieland - if it indeed will be the last one - is somewhat better than the 5th movie. It actually tries to wrap up things, even if some of it only barely fits together with super glue, gaffer tape and a staple gun. But with enough clones, you can always make it fit, and it kinda does. Well, at least if you are a fan, and if you have accepted that the impossible is possible. If you have made it all the way to the 6th movie, there's a good chance you have.

Alice starts her journey from Washington D.C., where we left her in the last movie. She has to make her way to The Hive in Raccoon City, which apparently has survived the atomic blast that happened in the second movie. She must make it there in 48 hours to get the anti-virus, before The Umbrella Corporation destroys all remaining human life. It barely makes any sense, but who cares at this point, as long as it's entertaining, and it actually is.

Alice [Milla Jovovich] meets some of her old friends and enemies on her way there. Claire Redfield [Ali Larter] and Dr. Isaacs [Iain Glen] are still alive. Don't worry, the movie will try to explain how. Oh, and The Red Queen and Wesker [Shawn Roberts] are obviously waiting there too.

The 3D effects don't have as much focus as they did in movie 4 and 5. Instead there are a damn lot of annoying shaky-cam sequences, and rapidly shifting camera angles. Some of it is a pain in the ass to watch, to be honest. It didn't spoil the movie for me, but it may give some people a headache. I expect it could be down to budget issues and a cheaper way to create some of the action scenes. Whatever the reason is, you'll just have to live with it.

Does Alice manage to save the last human beings? Will she die doing so? Is it absolutely impossible to make a 7th movie later on? Well, you'll just have to see for yourself.

My Resident Evil movies ranking - best to worst:

  1. Extinction (3)
  2. Resident Evil (1)
  3. Afterlife (4)
  4. Apocalypse (2)
  5. The Final Chapter (6)
  6. Retribution (5)

Rating: 3
