There's a new kid in town! Prince's legendary "Purple Rain" music movie has just been released on 4K bluray. About time if you ask me! But but...I already own the old bluray version, should I buy the 4K version then? Yes, you really should, if you have a 4K capable bluray player, a highspeed HDMI cable and a TV set that supports 4K video. Here's why:
- If you compare the video quality with the old bluray then the 4K version looks much better. It is sharper and it has more details. This release is really a true upgrade!
- If your player and TV supports it, it has high dynamic range (HDR), but sadly not Dolby Vision. HDR is still much better than nothing. It improves the video quality.
- It has a new 5.1 soundtrack for the surround fanatics but it has also preserved the original stereo soundtrack for us that don't give a fuck about surround. The sound quality hasn't been improved so don't expect wonders there.
- It has more options in subtitles. E.g. it has Danish subtitles not only English.
- "Purple Rain" is one of the best music movies ever made if not simply the very best. It really deserves this 4K quality.
- It is a fantastic testament to Prince's genius in full effect and the best decade ever: the awesome 1980s.
"Ladies and gentlemen... The Revolution!"
The 4K bluray also comes with a regular bluray disc in the box. It is actually the old existing version of the bluray, so you won't get better picture on that one. It does however have some extra documentaries on it, so it still has its use.
