This NPG Jam, which was actually much in the style of an after show, I will remember for a few things:
First of all, it's not the most interesting intimate gig I've seen with Prince (even if I may not be able to fully be the judge of that, which you will understand, if you read on.) That said, it was labelled to be an NPG Jam without Prince but turned out to also include Prince, which is always great of course. It was music in the style of an after show with long jams and cover versions and lesser known Prince songs. Several of the songs were sung by guest vocalists.
Secondly, the show was planned to start at 21:00 but actually started shortly after midnight, probably because Prince - the perfectionist - had to test every minor detail 450 times before they could enter the stage.
Thirdly, all this waiting time led to a lot of beers being emptied before the show even started, which probably led to the final and most important issue.
Fourthly, I was kicked out somewhere about halfway into the gig. I was testing my camera a bit too much and a bit too openly and a certain bouncer had to kick me out or so he explained. I didn't think he really HAD to, but anyways, he sure did. First Prince gig I've left in such an uncool manner.
Anyway, sometimes you gamble and take it a bit too far and then you have to pay the price. Hope the rest of you enjoyed the last half of the gig, I went and buried myself in beer elsewhere. But after all, this was only the beginning of an insane Prince weekend. We had two more shows coming up Saturday and Sunday at The NPG Festival.
