Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds : "The Abattoir Blues Tour (live 2003/2004)", CD+DVD, [2007] [Movie Review]

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Abattoir Blues Tour

This boxset consists of 2 DVDs and 2 CDs.

  • - The 1st DVD is a show filmed in 2004 at Brixton Academy London.
  • - The 2nd DVD is 7 songs filmed in 2003 at Hammersmith Apollo London, also featured are various promo videos and a short film.
  • - The 2 CDs are recordings from the 2004 Abattoir Blues tour from all over Europe.

Nick Cave is very energetic and focused and his bunch of lunatics also known as The Bad Seeds are laid back, cool and very tight moving between controlled minimalism and complete chaos. The thunder of the 4 gospel singers sounds amazing on the wonderfully melodic and beautiful tunes from the "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" albums.

One of many highlights on the DVDs is a murderous "Stagger Lee". Anyone who's ever seen this song performed live will know that they are in for a blast and this version is no different. It doesn't get much better than that.

The images are perfectly clear but still the light is tasteful. The sound is a bit raw and almost underproduced (goes for both DVDs and CDs) but still the sound is very good.

This is a fantastic live boxset and it is recommend for all Nick Cave disciples while we wait for the Grinderman album to come out in March.
