Unfortunately the European vinyl release has been postponed until December 9th, so this review is based on a digital download. The sound quality and production is flawless and Kim's machine-gun bass sounds crisp as hell. Compared to their last album, this new one certainly has much better sound. I only wish I could say a few words about the vinyl's sound or the cover of the album too.
I can however say that I hate the title "A Symphony of Wolf Tones & Ghost Notes". It sounds like a fucking Volbeat title. The best thing I can say about that is that the album certainly doesn't sound anything like Volbeat. Har!
It's been 5 years since the latest NekroAlbum "What Happens In Hell Stays In Hell!" [2011] and to judge from the increasing gap between albums, I predict that the next one will be out in 2022. Since the latest album, Lux Drummerette has been replaced by Adam the Mighty Mouse. He is doing a mighty fine job, both live and on this new album. He's got a nice swing and fits in very well with guitarist Franc and the old grumpy Nekroman himself.
The album opens with a very typical woo-hoo yeah-yeah NekroRocker "Glow in the Dark". Perhaps not the best of it's type ever from the band, but it does the job well and gets the album started with a blast. "NekroTopia" brings giant spiders and gargoyles to the party. It's one of the best songs on the album and very true to the finest NekroSound. "War Bats" brings both bats and more woo-hoos with it.
Weakest tracks? Personally I'm not a big fan of "Cry Yourself To Sleep" and "No more Room in Hell". I found them somewhat boring and a little uninspired after a few spins.
My Favorite? "Creeping it Real" totally rocks! It has great lyrics "stalking you is the only way I can feel" and the rhythm is pounding. Very nice tune indeed and a true NekroClassic.
ASOWT&GN is actually a very consistent album that will keep you trapped beyond death for a long while. It may lack the true NekroHit material, but if you just give it a bit of time, it doesn't have many weak spots either. It gives us more of the well-proven NekroFormula. And if it ain't broke, don't fucking try to fix it.
