If you thought M3gan "died" in the first movie then you don't know how Hollywood works. A military killer-doll is on the loose and it obviously means that good-old M3gan needs to be brought back in an upgraded version - meet M3GAN 2.0 (pronounced "Megan 2.0"). M3gan is now (probably) the good doll helping to save the World from total destruction and all things AI gone mad. It's just like facing a new version of Skynet.
The first movie had a lot of charm and worked really well. It was never boring, it had the perfect length, a good pace and likeable characters. It lacked one thing though, and that was blood, gore and limbs flying through the air. PG-13 is a ridiculous mix with a murder-doll movie. The Blu-ray version had a bit more blood than the theatrical version but still far from enough.
Megan 2.0 isn't a good sequel. It is far too long (almost 2 hours). The plot is predicable, but most of all it is a mess. It has a lot of action going on, but it is still PG-13 and it just becomes repetitive and boring without any gore. It doesn't help with all the moral bullshit they add on top of it all.
The new evil killer robot Amelia [Ivanna Sakhno] doesn't have the charm or the fun personality that M3gan does. Cady [Violet McGraw] is still a likeable character, but her aunt Gemma [Allison Williams] is seriously annoying throughout most of the movie. M3gan remains the same funny robot in her new upgraded version, but even her charm and humor can't save this movie.
I wouldn't say I hated the movie, but I was somewhat disappointed. I have no plans of buying this on Blu-ray later on and I doubt it has any real replay value. The first movie was much better and I'd much rather be watching that one again.
