This is a great solo record by Ida Nielsen, who is now much better known as Prince's NPG bass-player. This is a collection of songs that Ida had already almost finished when she joined the NPG. She just couldn't let them lie and sleep forever, could she? She tied up the last few knots and released them - so far only: as a digital download.
While there's a few guests - like NPG's Shelby J, most of it is purely Ida. It is funky and most vocals are rappin' along with a flow and a voice that sounds almost like Heather Hunter (Double H) to me (from HH's album "The Unexpected" : "4 Seconds", [2005].) Maybe Ida doesn't dream of being compared to a former porn star, but on the other hand Heather is a pro too, and she has a very great rap flow, and so has Ida. What I'm sayin' is: I mean this in a very positive way. In my book, Ida has now had her + sign today! :)
The album has a few more soul-like or slow songs, but most of it is very FUNKY! Listen to "Sometimes a girl needs some sugar too", "Cowboysong" and especially "Discumbobuloveulong". That last song is a bloody cool thing, and I'd like to see Prince join Ida sometime performing it. Well, it shouldn't be impossible, should it?
If Ida has created these songs before she joined the NPG, then I'm almost scared of what she'll be able to create now, after Prince is hangin' out with her. It is going to be awesome. Funk on, Ida! Denmark is proud of you, at least the Purple ones are!
