It seems they can't make IT work anywhere. The novel was great but the ending sucked as is usually the case with Stephen King novels. The 1990 mini-series had a great part 1 and failed on many levels with part 2. The 2017+2019 movies had the same problem and fucked up when we got to part 2. Here we are in 2025 and it was time for a prequel TV show on HBO Max. I wasn't too optimistic to begin with given the past "IT" output, but I did make it through all 8 episodes using all of my will power while resisting the urge to give up more than once.
My immediate comments right after each episode.
Episode 1: I'll have to wait and see a few more episodes before I decide, if IT sinks or floats down there...
Episode 2: It's not bad. A bit (too much) focused on race issues perhaps, but it's not bad. IT was always best when it focused on kids rather than adults, and so far it works pretty well. 2 episodes in and I haven't given up.
Episode 3: The CGI is terrible. I'm not so sure about this thing any longer. Crappy episode.
Episode 4: I think the actors are doing pretty good jobs, a few of them even really great jobs. Clara Stack as Lilly Bainbridge is clearly one of the best. Overall the show is a bit stretched, thin, too sloppy. Some of the CGI effects are completely ridiculous. I am not particularly happy with the show, but I guess I'll hang on, and see IT through.
Episode 5: It is still moving very slowly. A show on Valium. Will IT get a second season? It's hard to say. I don't know how many of the viewers hate it. The internet plebs are pretty unpredictable... and HBO Max are pretty unreliable. I can say that they really don't have to renew it for my sake...
Episode 6: nah, still not working for me. IT is still remarkably slow and quite dull...
Episode 7: Finally a bit of action in this episode, but I am still not a fan. The cool animated intro sequence is the best thing in every episode.
Episode 8: You can always count on IT to derail when it nears the end. Like the Movie versions before it this TV show also ended in a ditch. Magic dagger, pillars, time travel? Cersei-ously? What a load of crap. What a waste of time.
It is not like the original novel didn't have some crap in it. It is impossible not to laugh out loud when you mention the magic space Turtle. The whole mythology is totally retarded. It is still a great novel though. I just wasn't prepared for more magical bullshit in this new TV show.
If you wanted to you could also describe this show as some Woke bullshit where all black people are good and all white men are evil clowns. It's not really necessary though. It is bad enough as it is. Dull, boring, retarded, a waste of time. Okay, I'll stop myself here.
I guess they think they tied the show cleverly together with the 2017 movie with that last scene of Beverly Marsh in the Asylum? Well, it had to end some way. I'm glad it did. Finally. End.
Replay value? None for me. One time was more than enough. "IT: Welcome to Derry" was simply too slow and dull for me. A beautiful box with nothing inside. I don't think it brought anything to the IT story that we couldn't have lived perfectly happy without. IT remains a great novel with a crappy ending. And then some movies that get Part 1 right and fuck up Part 2. Please cancel this show. I can't take no more. I've had enough. Enough with this clown shit.
