Exilia - "My Own Army", CD, [2009] [Record Review]

Exilia - My Own Army

I first heard this band at a Nu-Metal gig at The Rock in Copenhagen on 2009-02-27. I was blown away by their live performance, and I immediately rushed to the merchandise stand to pick up a couple of their CDs, when the gig had ended. Their new 2009 release My Own Army was one of them.

What you will notice the most about this Italian band is their singer Masha. She has a really powerful voice that suits their songs excellent. Their music is not exactly hardcore metal and has some pop sound to it as well. This is mainly due to the production that is light and open, but also makes every detail and instrument stand out with strength and power. The rhythm section is very tight, the songs are melodic and most of them are up tempo and fast rock songs. The album also contains a couple of ballads, where you can really hear Masha's full potential. Her Italian accent that can be heard at times is only a charming plus.

I'm usually no fan of female hard-rock singers and to be honest I usually hate Nu-metal. Something about this band just doesn't fit the ordinary Nu-metal style and their formula and sound is simply something I like. It seems that I have found myself a cool band to follow and enjoy.
