The new Duran Duran has got some pretty catchy tunes and some good pop melodies. The problem is that all the voice processing becomes very tiresome to listen to after a bunch of replays, and that is really a bit of a shame.
The album is actually better than a 3/6 rating, but I can't go higher than that with this annoying "Electric Barbarella" voice all over the album. The album is also more than a few songs too long and would have profited from having been trimmed down a bit. Only a few ballads have somehow escaped from the robot voice wrapping.
I had hoped for a new album quite as good as "Rio" but that will never happen, I guess. The production sounds like it's stuck in the 90ties and, if anything, I would prefer it to having been stuck in the 80ties if it absolutely has got to be stuck anywhere.
I'll check out Duran Duran when they hit Copenhagen's Tivoli, June 14 this year. They played a good concert some years ago at Roskilde Festival, so I expect them to perform better live than on record.
