This album is quite tough to review. I've played it many times now, but I always find myself walking away, starting doing something noisy or changing the music to something else after a few songs. The album is simply as boring as watching paint dry. It kinda sounds exactly the way Fletcher "standing in the back and reading my e-mails" looks on stage.
The only song I can vaguely remember is "Wrong". Not because it is particularly good. It just happens to be slightly less boring than the rest of the album. "Peace" is so unbelievably bad that it seriously hurts your ears to listen to it. I hate the beginning of the first track as well. Not that this is the reason for my lack of enthusiasm regarding the new album. I hate the beginning of "Playing The Angel" as well, but I love what comes after the opening noise on that album.
I've heard cows moo in more interesting ways than "Sounds Of The Universe" and I'm not sure that the universe is big enough for both me and this album. If Depeche Mode make it to Copenhagen's Parken in late June I certainly hope they won't play a single song from this new album. It will be much appreciated.
