It was a hot evening inside Amager Bio. The venue was damn near sold out and both floor and balcony were packed with metal heads looking forward to have their faces smashed in by the great hammer of Death. Sadly however, the organizers had booked no less than 3 support bands this evening. That's almost 3 hours of support. Please don't do this again, I'm too old for this shit. One bloody support act must be enough.
I skipped the first band - Storm Ruler. I thought the second band - Ingested - did quite good and they managed to spawn a circle of death and a very lively crowd. The third band - Dark Funeral - was damn awful, I marched off to the foyer to escape both their shitty music and the damned heat.
Then finally at 22:07 the main act - Cannibal Corpse - entered the stage and began doing what they always do, play yet another great concert of pure Death with no bullshit. As a result of the numerous support bands, I think a number of people had already left the venue by then. It was not quite as packed for the main act as it had been earlier in the evening, but those who stayed until the end got good value for their money.
The singer, Corpsegrinder, still has a monster neck and he headbanged his way through the set like no other man could. The band sounded really great and the setlist was a fine mix of older mandatory hits like "I Cum Blood", "Stripped, Raped and Strangled", "Hammer Smashed Face", but they had also managed to squeeze in 3 of the new songs "Inhumane Harvest", "Condemnation Contagion", "Necrogenic Resurrection" from their excellent 2021 album "Violence Unimagined". I think they played for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
I left the venue with a new t-shirt and a signed LP. I had felt like shit all day, so I really wasn't in the mood for a packed super heated venue like this, but it is amazing what paracetamol, Jack D and Coke and a bunch of beers can do. I am glad I went there and Cannibal Corpse are always worth seeing live.
