"Bring Her Back", Cinema, [2025]

Andy [Billy Barratt] and Piper [Sora Wong] are living with their father. When their father suddenly dies, Laura [Sally Hawkins] becomes their foster mom, and they get to live at her remote house.

It is obvious from the beginning that Laura has a lot of interest in Piper, while she mostly ignores Andy. Piper reminds her of her dead daughter Cathy, who drowned in a pool during a rain storm. Piper has very limited vision, just like Cathy had. This makes it easier for Laura to manipulate Piper. Laura turns Piper against Andy and soon it is up to Andy to figure out what sinister motives are behind Laura's actions.

Also living with Laura is a young boy, Oliver [Jonah Wren Phillips], who is a mute. He behaves very strangely - almost like a wild animal.

Sally Hawkins is great as the foster mom from Hell. Laura is one crazy evil bitch.

The backstory can be a bit difficult to follow. Most of the mysterious events are revealed on snippets from old grainy VHS tapes. I'd wish they had found a way to present this backstory in a better way, I think the film would have benefited from it.

Also the drunken party scene annoyed me, it didn't feel like something that would really happen.

Bring Her Back is entertaining enough. There is quite a bit of body horror and mystery. The actors do well. The run time is short enough and the pacing is fine.

I wouldn't mind watching this movie a second time when it shows up on a streaming service one day.
