I am a die-hard fan of the original Blade Runner [1982] movie and I've watched it a billion times and I will likely watch it a billion times more. It was therefore with some anxiety I went and saw this new sequel Blade Runner 2049. It turns out I had a lot of reasons to be anxious.
The new movie runs for 2 hours and 43 minutes. You need very good reasons to make a movie this long. It turns out the filmmakers didn't have any reasons at all. The story could easily have been told in 43 minutes. The remaining 2 hours are just used to drag out things and kill any pace whatsoever. The movie is as slow as a snail. A very slow asthmatic snail. There are no memorable lines at all and the characters are completely dull compared to the old masterpiece. Even Harrison Ford doesn't stand out much.
I'll think twice before seeing any movie from director Denis Villeneuve again. He has earned a place on my hate list. If I wanted to sleep, I prefer to sleep in my bed instead of in a cinema chair. I would normally rate a movie like this 2/6, but I'll go as low as 1/6 because it is so bloody long and boring. Fail.
