Black Magic Six - "Doomsday Bound", LP, [2010] [Record Review]

Black Magic Six - Doomsday Bound

A lot of people keep asking me: what is your favorite punk rock band from Finland? I have no idea why they ask me that, but the answer is easy: Black Magic Six!

BM6 plays what can probably best be described as punk with a garage rock flavor and even some blues in it. The band consist of J-Tan (Jukka Taskinen) on vocals and guitar and Lew Siffer (Lucifer) on drums. The best way to experience BM6 is to catch one of their many gigs and see and hear for yourself: they freakin' rock and they are very entertaining too.

The new album is simple and great. Every single track has the BM6 sound of the almost screamin' voice from J-Tan and the often repetitive and mesmerizing rhyhtm from Lew's Drumkit mixed with an often distorted guitar. The easiest approachable tracks are probably Shade Out Of Light and The Past, The Present And The Future Of True Heavy Metal pt. 1 which is not really a heavy metal song but a great song never-the-less. Cat Chasing The Dog is also a great favorite of mine.

The album is really consistent and if you like the first song there's a very good chance you'll love the other 9 that follows it. It is not complicated music and why the hell does it have to be that if it rocks as it is?

In a true punk rock style the album only runs for 30 minutes and if you have a good turntable you might want to consider buying the vinyl version as the sound is really great and it is a scientific fact that music sounds best from a vinyl record when you are drinking beer, and you know you'll be drinking beer when listening to BM6.

While you're at it, buy their first record too: (gives you) Evil Acupunction [2008]. It has 12 more tracks that sounds more or less the same as the 10 new tracks and therefore the 2 records complement each other perfectly. I'm sure you don't wanna miss out on tracks like Hudaa, Evil Man and not to forget Suck The Poison Out.

"I don't wanna be an evil man, but evil is what I am."
