We're back in Underland and Alice meets all her old friends and foes again. This time, Alice [Mia Wasikowska] is on a mission to go back in time, and try to prevent the dragon, Jabberwock, from killing the Hatter's [Johnny Depp] family. To do so, she must steal the Chronosphere from Time itself or rather from Time [Sacha Baron Cohen] himself. The evil Red Queen [Helena Bonham Carter] wants the same thing, only she wants to use it to rule the past, the present and the future. Will Alice succeed or will Underland be destroyed - including the good White Queen [Anne Hathaway] and all the other good people - if Alice or someone else messes up the past?
The characters and the universe are very true to the first movie "Alice in Wonderland" [2010], which was instructed by Tim Burton. Like that first movie, the new movie also has a very Disney-like feel to it, and that's perhaps it's biggest weakness. It's all a bit too sweet, and it could have used some more edge and craziness.
The dialogue ain't bad, and quite funny at times, and the special effects are impressive. It is mighty fine entertainment, but it is not a movie, I'd like to watch again soon. It feels a bit too hollow, even though it looks great on the big screen. I'd much rather see Marilyn Manson create an Alice in Wonderland movie. It would not be for the weak, but it would certainly have the edge and craziness, that both Disney movies are lacking.
