I saw the 2009 show in Brighton just the day before this one. It was an excellent show with an excellent crowd. I felt fairly certain this DVD + CD package would be the shit already before I held it in my hands. I was right.
Alice Cooper and his band were smokin' in December 2009. Alice Cooper's voice hasn't been 100% perfect in recent years and it is no different here. It is however well enough for most of the gig and the band simply rocks the house. Just listen to the instrumental Black Widow and be amazed. To top it off the production is really great, the image is crystal clear and the audio is perfect (I bet audio mixer Bob Ezrin has a lot to do with that.) You have been able to buy mixer-straight-to-mp3 recordings at every Alice Cooper gig for a long time now. Be aware however that the audio on this release is MUCH better and you can hear all instruments perfectly clear (the sound is also available in surround on the DVD.)
The show has all the usual Cooper fun with guillotine, metal spikes, stabbings, the hanging and being poisoned by a huge syringe. The songs are a greatest hits selection with no big surprises. Many of these songs are however so great that you'll end up singing along just like the fantastic London crowd did. Again I must say I wish he would drop a few of the (admittedly few) weaker songs and add some from the "new wave punk" period (1980-1982) instead. No matter what, this DVD + CD is an excellent release and an excellent testament of a fantastic Alice Cooper tour.
Alice Cooper is getting older and they may have killed him a million times already but he keeps comin' back and I hope we will be able to enjoy the Cooper show for many years to come.
