Adam Ant - "Live at the Bloomsbury", CD, [2008] [Record Review]

Adam Ant - Live at the Bloomsbury

In 2006 Adam had his autobiography "Stand & Deliver" published. On the 24 September 2007 Adam did a reading at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London and he performed a bunch of old songs as well. He was only accompanied by an old friend Dave Pash on the guitar. This cd holds some of the reading and some(all?) of the songs performed that night.

It is a strange thing to hear Adam stripped down like this when you are used to hearing the songs with a full band. But I would imagine that it worked very well in an intimate theatre. On cd it is a bit more problematic. It is not quite as intimate, and I think that the guitarist has a few problems along the way. Perhaps it would have been better to invite old Ant guitarist Marco Pirroni instead? That said it ain't bad at all, and it works quite well on several of the songs. Adam still has a very great and powerful voice. There is no reason why he shouldn't make a new album someday in a hopefully not too distant future.

Even if this isn't the greatest album I've heard from Adam Ant, I must admit that I have had Catch A Falling Star and Never Trust A Man(With Egg On His Face) on my mind quite a bit lately.
