Abbath @ Amager Bio, Copenhagen, 2026-04-03

Abbath, the Panda King, was back in town. He had brought 3 other bands with him that I didn't care one bit about. One of them, Hypocrisy, were even falsely being listed as the headliner of the evening.

I had skipped the first band by arriving fashionably late and then I'd figured out by using ears and mind that they somehow had swapped the order of the first 2 bands. The merch girl later confirmed that I was right. I had skipped Vomitory and I had heard some of Vreid. Vreid weren't too bad though, I didn't hate them at all.

Abbath entered the stage more or less at the AI predicted time of arrival. Abbath's current band consists of a drummer, a bassist and a guitarist. Abbath and band played a rather short set of Abbath songs only. Something I hadn't expected, since he'd been playing Immortal songs only for the last year or so. Pandas can always surprise you!

Abbath was in an entertaining mood tonight. He did the Abbath, Abbth, Abbah, Abt, Aaa joke with his name. No crab walk though. I was well prepared for the weird Norwegian sounds coming right at us. I had managed to shoot a photo of the setlist before the gig had started, making it much easier to translate the strange words coming out of the Panda King's mouthpiece.

To actually get a good view of Abbath and the band was very difficult. He has taken a liking of clouding the stage in thick smoke for most of the gig. It was very funny watching the desperate photographers trying to get at least one decent shot through the smoke clouds during the first songs of the concert.

The sound could have been better tonight. With Abbath not being the headliner, he had to suffer the usual problems of support bands. Particularly the drums sucked. They were placed far right on the stage and they didn't sound good in the mix. A plus was that I could actually hear the bass this evening. I have lost count of how many Abbath gigs I have attended were the bass simply wasn't there. Tonight it was actually there to be heard!

The drummer handed me the actual setlist after the gig, thank you! I got a guitar pick from the bassist and the Panda himself. It had been a very fine evening. Even if the bar didn't have any fucking Lemmy to sell. What a fatal mistake.

It was a very short Abbath gig though. I believe Abbath only got about 45 minutes to play his 10 short songs. I actually did give the "headliner" a chance, but after listening to 3 or 4 songs of Hypocrisy, I concluded that fucking off was the better option. If the Panda King could fuck off, so could I.
