Since there is almost no story in this movie, I can't really say much about it, because it would ruin what little bit of story there is. But basically, it is Sandra Bullock as Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her first mission in space and George Clooney as Matt Kowalski, a seasoned space cowboy who is on his last space mission. They get in serious trouble out there and must try to save their own asses best as they can, using what little tools they have left, to help them home to Earth. Even if the story is thinner than paper, it is also completely unbelievable. It would be more likely to win the Lottery 10 times in a row than to make it through some of the events that happen in this space adventure.
Then it can't be worth seeing, can it? Well, actually it can. Some of the hype is well-deserved this time. From a technical viewpoint it is amazing. 3D is usually utter shite and not worth bothering with, but here it lifts the experience to greater heights. Even if the story is thin, there is plenty of action and a good pace. Only when it gets a little bit too sentimental late in the movie, it feels a bit long, but for most of it's runtime, the movie is very entertaining, which is impressive in itself given the minimal number of actors who both do a fine job.
Would I want to see it again later on bluray at home? Certainly not. It's a one time flick for me, but in a top-class cinema like Copenhagen's Imperial, it is a great experience on the big-screen in 3D and with a Dolby Atmos sound system to match it.
