This is an old-school vampire-movie or should I say vampire-remake. You already know the story, it is the same as most other vampire-movies. The acting is very old-school too, but I think it fits in well with the general look and feel of the movie.
Ellen Hutter [Lily-Rose Depp] has nightmares of Count Orlok [Bill Skarsgård] coming for her, long before he actually arrives by plague ship. Her husband Thomas Hutter [Nicholas Hoult] meets with the Count in his remote castle and only escapes certain death by throwing himself off a ledge and into a river.
Will Ellen Hutter survive long enough for Thomas' return or will the doctors manage to kill her with blood draining and large amounts of ether in an attempt to stop her nightmares?
Will Prof. Albin Eberhart von Franz [Willem Dafoe] be able to figure out how to stop the Count before he kills them all?
Lots of questions to ask and you already know the answers to most of them. Don't see this movie for the story. See it for the beautiful images, the ice cold threatening atmosphere, and the old-school look and feel.
The movie is at least half an hour too long and it does smell a bit of arty-fartyness here and there. It is also not really a very necessary movie because it doesn't bring anything new to the story or the genre. I doubt there will be much replay value in "Nosferatu".
"Nosferatu" is at least a better movie than 2 other movies "The Lighthouse" [2019] and "The Northman" [2022] also by Robert Eggers. I really hated both of those movies. "Nosferatu" is however not even remotely close to the awesomeness of his masterpiece "The VVitch" [2015] that remains his best movie by far.
