Newest output from the Sputnik2 camp (this time identified as Sci-Fi Superstars) is the
Space Age Junkie
album. Sci-Fi Superstars is the name of ex-Sigue Sigue Sputnik singer Martin Degville's new band.
The album consists of 8 tracks and was originally planned as a cd-r release, but due to technical problems it ended up as a digital download including cover images. The songs were originally intended for the
Propeth of Freak
album but I guess they never made it all the way.
The songs are in the same vibe as found on the 2008 albums
Sputnik 2....The Future
and
G.O.D (guns oil drugs)
. This means that some of them are pretty cool and some of them are more so-so. It is absolutely interesting for the Sputnik fan to listen to the album, while it may not be quite consistent enough for the casual listener. It is like listening to a work in progress when you combine the 3 albums and hopefully the
Propeth of Freak
will see the light of day soon! I think there is reason to believe that the album will be really good judging from the best of the material on the (so far) 3 demos and outtakes albums.
Best track you say? Hmmm...
Sputnik2 Express
is cool with it's
Jayne Mansfield
like guitar riff. I love it! :) Actually most of the songs are enjoyable for various reasons. Only
Supa Computa
is a bit annoying due to the repetitive Kraftwerk voice fx. The song
Thank You Baby - For Lovin' Me
is also found on the
Sputnik 2....The Future
album.
