Ministry - Vega - Copenhagen - 2008-06-04 - Live (concert review)
Al Jourgensen has been named the godfather of industrial music by many people, and he certainly looks a bit like a godfather. Not too far from an industrial Ozzy Osbourne clone dressed in black and wearing a silly hat.

The stage setup was complete with metal fences covering the entire stage front, and most of the show was played more or less in the dark only with the occasional spotlight to lit up the darkness at times. It may have been an OK idea, if only they had kicked down the fences at some point, but they didn't, and so it actually built some kinda distance between the band and the audience, which perhaps wasn't the smartest thing to do.

The band actually played very well, and especially one of the guitarists and the bass player did some cool stuff. Generally Al sang great as well, and the sound was very good. Only problem was that Vega (like fucking always) destroyed the rock'n'roll feeling by keeping the volume ridiculously low. The pre-gig music was actually louder than the show itself. I have developed a serious hathred against Vega's sound volume policy, and I think they should go to hell.

I am not a Ministry fan, so I won't go into details with what they played or didn't play, but the songs were of mixed quality. Some of the best songs really kicked some serious ass and made you think of Nine Inch Nails. Unfortunately not all of the songs were that good so it was a bit of a mixed bag ranking from excellent to uninteresting.

All in all it was a good 2 hours spent with a pretty cool band. But they should think a bit about changing their stage setup, and perhaps play at a different venue next time. A venue that actually allows music to be played at an appropriate volume level. This tour has been labelled as a farewell tour, so maybe they won't come back. Time will tell.
