I had no idea what to expect from this concert with The Raveonettes. Yes, I have seen The Raveonettes live many times before, but their latest album "Sing..." [2024] is semi-acoustic and I had kind of accepted in my warped mind, that we'd get a rather quiet and laid-back gig. I had no idea what to expect from the venue, Hotel Cecil in Copenhagen, either. It was a first time visit for me.
The Raveonettes is a loud and noisy rock-band and they don't play quiet gigs. My mind can go fuck itself, there was nothing quiet or laid-back about this concert. They did most of the gig as a four-piece band (the same band as they were on "Pretty In Black" [2005].) They were pretty loud for the small venue. They had smoke, strobe lights and everything you'd expect from a Raveonettes gig.
Hotel Cecil is a small venue. It has excellent sound and fairly good logistics for buying more beers. I can see why The Raveonettes have parked themselves here for 6 continuous days of mostly sold-out gigs.
What can I say about this particular gig? It had really great sound. The strobe lights were limited, but still very present. The setlist was fucking excellent. I had expected them to focus on their latest album, but I was wrong again. The setlist was a tour through Rave-time.
They played selected songs from all of their albums and some rarities too, like "I Wanna Be Taken" and "Railroad Tracks". We even got "The Christmas Song", Hell Yeah!! We were a friendly crowd who enjoyed the band in these intimate settings, and the band seemed to enjoy playing for us. Sharon talked between some of the songs, Sune didn't say much. This is normal Rave-procedure.
My friend and I had a blast from the old-people seats in the back. The Raveonettes is a fucking great live band. See them and believe.
Yes, there was a support band. I didn't catch their name. The less I say about them the better.
