Time to sum it up. The year 2018 will be remembered for, well, nothing at all. So here goes...
POP:
WINNER:
Kim Wilde
: "Here Come The Aliens".
Best pop album of 2018. Kim is back in form. The deluxe 2CD with extra remixes and live recordings is the best way to get some value for money, but the clear red vinyl is nice too!
RUNNER-UPs:
Prince : "Piano & A Microphone 1983" (boxset)
An old Prince demo/rehearsal tape. It will blow your mind. A genious and his piano, this was a modern-day Mozart and he was inspired. This boxset is awesome.
ROCK:
WINNER:
Slægt
: "The Wheel".
Great follow-up to their outstanding "debut" EP + LP. The new album doesn't have that direct accessibility that was part of the previous Hellish output, but on the other hand it is damn consistent. I won't move an inch. Slægt is the new Mercyful Fate, and those who won't accept this fact, can just piss off.
RUNNER-UPs:
Alice Cooper : "A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia Paris (live 2017)"
I asked, why the fuck do we need yet another album of the same old Cooper setlist? Well, listen to it and eat it. Alice and his band is a greased machine. You can't beat it. Die if you try. The Coop über alles.
MOVIES:
WINNER:
"
I, Tonya
".
Margot Robbie and her Allison Janney psycho mum simply own this shit. A fookin' ice skating movie?! Shut up and observe. This is brilliant. Anything that happened in the 80s was brilliant. And this movie will blow you away. Pure perfection.
RUNNER-UPs:
"The Equalizer 2" - slower, but a nice follow up to the first movie. I liked it a lot.
"Deadpool 2" - more of the same, but still a FUCK YOU to all other lame super heroes. Love.
"Tomb Raider" - Lara Croft reborn, a bit too sensitive perhaps, but kick.ass.100%. I approve.
"Annihilation" - nice sci-fi, too bad it never got a real release, Netflix doesn't really count
LIVE GIGS:
WINNER:
Amyl and The Sniffers @ Gutter Island Festival, Masnedø 2018.
They brought the punk back in rock and the fun back to a festival almost drowning in it's own ass. Their 2x EP release "Big Attraction & Giddy Up" is great punk stuff. Let it rock!
RUNNER-UPs:
Ramin Djawadi + Orchestra @ Royal Arena, CPH 2018.
You'll never experience anything like this Game of Thrones show again, and the complexity of getting so many musicians to sound perfect at once, is breathtaking. Awesomeness.
MOST WANTED IN 2019:
Gemma Ray - new album and live in Berlin
Wendy James - new album
The Cure - new album and live @ Roskilde Festival
The Revolution (minus Prince) - Is the water still warm enough? Live @ Vega, CPH
Jason Ringenberg - new crowdfunded album (no Scorchers this time around)
MOVIES IN 2019?
None really. They will probably all suck.
