Alice Cooper - Ballerup Super Arena - Denmark - 2007-11-29 - Live (concert review)
The crowd at this show was very mixed. Alice has a fair amount of both pretty young fans and people who has stayed loyal for a long time. Special guests Uriah Heep added even older people to the crowd. People from 14 to 65 were there basically.

Uriah Heep support:

Uriah Heep played a pretty cool support gig. I had never heard a single tune by these old men but it turned out that they rocked very well indeed. The musicians played some incredibly cool groovy shit. The singer could sing and sounded not too far from Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. I won't run and buy all their records, but for a support act you really got some added value.

Alice Cooper:

The king and inventor of horror rock Alice Cooper played a good gig. Not exactly awesome but good never-the-less. His band (Keri Kelli - Guitar, Jason Hook - Guitar, Eric Singer - Drums and Chuck Garric - Bass) is really tight and plays both new and older tracks with lots of energy and power. Unfortunately Alice had some serious problems with his voice somewhere halfways into the set. It got a bit better after he had a break during one of the instrumental bits but I would be a bit worried if I had tickets for one of the next gigs on this "Psycho-Drama" tour. It sounded like his voice needs total rest for some days.

The setlist was a bit disappointing since they played mostly old songs and songs that have stayed in the setlist for years and years. He really should think about adding some of the songs from the beginning of the eighties ("Special Forces" etc.) What he did back then was bloody awesome. Also I would like to hear more of the newer songs from year 2000 and up. Many of the newer songs are really great and could easily replace some of the older songs we've heard so many times. Also, I fail to understand why so many fans seem to genuinely love "Poison". It is an awful overplayed pop song and I hate it both on record and live. Instead, I'ld take "Who do you think we are?" any freakin' day.

The show was actually not that spectacular and in many songs they kept the focus on the music rather than on the horror show. What we did get was the cool hanging of Alice in the gallows, Alice in the straightjacket, a bit of blood, Alice's daughter Calico doing some impressive stunts pretending to be beaten up by Alice, The "Dead Babies" scene, Alice popping balloons with his sword and "Hillary Clinton" entered the show in "Elected". We had dollar bills thrown at us and also pearls in "Dirty Diamonds". The drum show with the two guitarists joining Eric Singer on drums in "Halo of Flies" is always a sight.

The sound quality in Ballerup Super Arena is unfortunately lousy. It is almost as lousy as the sound quality in Valby Hallen. Yuck! The music sounded muddy and this didn't do the musicians any justice. It is a real shame that they don't build larger venues with a great sound quality in Copenhagen. But at least they played the music loud. And that is always a good thing.

All in all I will always enjoy being at an Alice Cooper gig. The songs are great, the band is great, Alice is a true legend and the show always has a lot of cool horror shock elements to check out. It wasn't the best show I've seen by Alice but I will certainly be back for more next time he stops by somewhere near Copenhagen.

Setlist:

The setlist must have been identical or very close to: It's Hot Tonight / No More Mr Nice Guy / Under My Wheels / I'm Eighteen / Is It My Body? / Woman Of Mass Distraction / Lost In America / Feed My Frankenstein / Be My Lover / Dirty Diamonds / Muscle Of Love / Desperado / Halo Of Flies (with Drum Solo) / Welcome To My Nightmare / Only Women Bleed / Steven / Dead Babies / Ballad Of Dwight Fry / Medley: Devils Food - Killer - I Love The Dead / School's Out / Poison / Elected.
